On arrival at the airport, you'll meet our team for your transfer to the hotel. We'll explain what happens next and answer any questions you might have. Then all that's left to do is go and start this safari trip of a lifetime together.

There's so much for you to enjoy in Nairobi. Everyone who comes here loves the city's museums, its national park and other wildlife attractions, but Nairobi also has terrific restaurants, nightlife, accommodation and shopping. It's all part of the fun of visiting this dynamic country and will provide you with so many unforgettable windows on modern life in Kenya. You'll have dinner and overnight stay at Tamarind Tree Hotel.

We will transfer by road fro Nairobi to Solio Conservancy. Located between Mt Kenya and the Aberdare Mountains (and with views of both), Solio Ranch is a wonderful safari experience. Solio is home to one of the most successful rhino breeding programs in Kenya, and there are dense concentrations of both black and white rhinos. Other wildlife is also possible here, including lion, leopard and cheetah, but the rhinos are the real stars.

You're going to be staying with us at Sweetwaters Serena Camp. It's an excellent base for getting to know the region and getting ready for what comes next.

Today we explore Ol Pejeta Conservancy, high on the Laikipia Plateau of north-central Kenya. Across the conservancy's high-altitude savannah grasslands and with views of distant mountains, expect to see both black and white rhinos, as well as lion, cheetah, hyena, elephant, giraffe, buffalo and zebra; you could see the Big Five here. Ol Pejeta protects the last two surviving northern white rhinos on earth, and there's a rehabilitation center for captive chimpanzees. With over 500 bird species recorded here, birders will love this place too.

Sweetwaters Serena Camp is your fantastic base for exploring the wonderful Ol Pejeta Conservancy. The tents come in a range of styles and sizes, but they're all large, warmly decorated, and many look out over the wildlife-rich plains of Ol Pejeta. The high-class facilities include a gift shop, swimming pool and restaurant. You can also enjoy a drink in a bar that overlooks a floodlit waterhole that draws animals after dark.

After breakfast, we embark on a scenic drive from Ol Pejeta Conservancy to Samburu National Reserve. Beautiful Samburu National Reserve is sure to capture your heart. Some of the scenery, especially close to the riverbank, is spectacular, and the wildlife is terrific. If you're lucky, you'll see all of the big cats, hyena, elephant, giraffe, hippo and zebra. Samburu is well-known for mammals from Kenya's north that can be hard to see elsewhere: gerenuk, Grevy's zebra, beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe. Birders will love the chance to see nearly 400 different species.

You'll love the warm light and cooler temperatures as we take you out to explore on your evening game drive. This time of day is when both predators and prey are most active and it can feel as though anything could happen at any moment. This is when you'll most enjoy being on safari.

You're in for a treat when you stay at Ashnil Samburu Camp. It's surrounded by doum palms alongside the Ewaso Nyiro River, inside Buffalo Springs Game Reserve but well located for Samburu National Reserve just across the river. Wildlife is everywhere, and the stunning tents are large, have wood floors, and most have stirring views. A swimming pool, bar and restaurant round out a fine package.

Today we return to the splendid Samburu National Reserve and enjoy getting to know the place a little better on another game drive. You will also have a cultural visit to meet the Samburu people.

When you stay at Il Ngwesi Lodge inside Il Ngwesi Group Ranch, you're in a good location for seeing all that the area has to offer. Facilities here include a swimming pool, a wildlife viewing deck and a bar. At Il Ngwesi, a eco-ludge run by the Maasai community, we will participate in a Bush walk, Manyatta visit, and Game Viewing

On your visit to Lake Nakuru National Park, you can expect some fantastic wildlife experiences. Flamingos have returned to the lake in varying numbers. You might also see tree-climbing lions, endangered Rothschild's giraffes, and the park's thriving populations of both black and white rhinos. You might even get a glimpse of a leopard. And because the park is relatively compact, your chances of seeing these and other animals are excellent.

The park's scenery, too, is a highlight, with the picturesque lake as a centerpiece. The acacia woodlands are especially pretty, and the views of the lake are best from the Out of Africa Lookout (where some scenes from the 1985 film were shot).

Tucked away in a corner far from all the other lodges and camps, Lake Nakuru Sopa Lodge has the best views of any place in Lake Nakuru National Park. The rooms here are delightful, flooded with natural light and with bright modern decor and plenty of space. The swimming pool, restaurant and bar all have amazing views.

Welcome to one of the best safari destinations in Kenya. Here in the Masai Mara National Reserve, you're almost certain to see lions, hyenas, hippos, elephants, giraffes, wildebeests, buffaloes, impalas and zebras, not to mention the more-than-500 species of birds that have been recorded here. There's also a good chance you'll encounter leopards and cheetahs, while you might also see black rhinos in the Mara Triangle.

Another memorable thing about visiting the Masai Mara is the landscape of vast savannah grasslands with plenty of flat-topped acacia trees. Going on an evening game drive is one of the highlights of any safari. This is when temperatures cool, the light becomes softer and the wildlife begins to get active. Not only will you be out when the light is best for taking photos, but it's also one of the best times of day for seeing the animals.

It's easy to fall in love with the Masai Mara when you stay at Zebra Plains Mara Camp. The luxury tents are just the beginning, with an outstanding restaurant, a well-stocked bar, and professional service all among the highlights of staying here. You're also in a first-rate location, which is ideal for seeing the many animals that make visiting the Masai Mara such a special experience.

One of our favorite places to look for wildlife in Kenya is the Masai Mara National Reserve. That's because the wildlife here is incredible, with big cats (lions, leopards and cheetahs) and elephants among the highlights, not to mention black rhinos in the Mara Triangle. There's a very good chance you'll also see giraffes, buffaloes, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, hyenas, and, of course, impalas. And bring your binoculars, because more than 500 species of birds have been recorded in the reserve. It's a place of beautiful savannah landscapes as well, with lots of acacia trees.

Optional for Day 9: Discover a whole new side to the Masai Mara on a hot-air balloon safari. This wonderful experience begins before dawn, and promises incredible views and lots of animals looking the size of ants out across the plains.

Maji Moto Maasai Cultural Camp is the perfect place for an authentic, non-touristy experience of a Maasai community, where real people are still living the Maasai traditions as compared to the commercial "staged" Maasai experiences so often offered on safari. As featured in the New York Times and Lonely Planet, we take part in culture and nature experiences with local Maasai guides. During our stay, we meet Maasai Tribesmen and Women, we go for a nature walk, get a Maasai Warrior Training and immerse ourselves in the traditional Maasai life, getting to know the art of Bush living.

There's so much for you to enjoy at Maji Moto Maasai Cultural Camp. It's a great place to stay. The Camp provides only the most authentic experience of real Maasai life, free from staging and commercialization.

One of the most beautiful of Kenya's Rift Valley lakes, Lake Naivasha is a pretty place where you're likely to see hippos, and where zebras and giraffes roam the lakeshore. It's a lovely interlude during your safari. Muthu Lake Naivasha Country Club will be your base on this leg of your trip.

Come with us on a walking safari, where you'll enjoy the thrill of stepping out into the African wild with an experienced guide. Although you won't be watching the animals from a vehicle, it's still very safe, and it's a priceless opportunity to feel really connected to the animals you'll see and the landscapes you'll explore in a whole new way.

You're in for a real safari treat when you visit Amboseli. It's one of Kenya's most beautiful parks, thanks to the fact that Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa's tallest peak (5895m), dominates most views here. Amboseli is also famous for its large population of elephants with big tusks, and you have an excellent chance of seeing lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, wildebeests and many gazelles while you're here. With 420 bird species recorded, it's also a great place for birding.

The views from Ol Tukai Lodge are the best you'll find anywhere inside Amboseli National Park. From most places on the nicely manicured grounds, including the bar, the restaurant, and the swimming pool, you'll have an uninterrupted look at Mt Kilimanjaro, often with elephants and other wildlife in the foreground. Rooms are large and lovely, and the personal nature of the service is a real feature here. Relax in the massage and spa center.

Amboseli National Park is where many safari travelers fall in love with Kenya. That's because this park packs a lot into a small space. Towering over it all is Mt Kilimanjaro (5895m), Africa's highest mountain: Kili may be in Tanzania, but the best views are from Amboseli. Wildlife highlights might include lions, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, zebras, giraffes, wildebeest, and, best of all, big tusked elephants that you can get really close to. It's this combination of spectacular views and wildlife that really elevates Amboseli into the elite of
Kenya's wildlife parks.

Exploring Tsavo West means getting to know one of Kenya's largest wilderness areas. It's a land of elephants caked in red Tsavo dust, maneless lions, and plenty of other wildlife that might include rhino, hippo, leopard, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe and zebra. Our (custom) Kenya Safari itineraries have a comprehensive trip price covering hotels/lodges, car, transfers, driver/guides, park fees, meals, water during safari days, activities, and Photographic tutoring by Kim Paffen.

While the Kenya trip price is inclusive the above elements, certain items are not inclusive of the safari trip price. Examples that are excluded are: tipping, visas, shopping, (alcoholic) drinks, travel insurance, washing clothes, and international flights.

Tipping is not typically included in the price for your safari in Kenya. In Kenya, tipping is not mandatory but customary. Tips are given as a gesture of gratitude, and the amount given will depend on your satisfaction. We will share more information about Kenya tipping guidelines in the process of booking your Kenya Safaris with us.

It depends if you prefer a custom-made private itinerary or if you opt for one of our scheduled Small Group Photo Safaris in Kenya, so please consider factors like flight costs, preferred (mid-range or semi-luxury) accommodations, and additional expenses for meals, tips, and shopping. Be prepared to budget around 7000-8000 USD for a 14-day photo safari trip in Kenya accompanied by a driver/guide and photographic guide. That budget is including flight, all meals, mid-range accommodations, water in the car, park fees and all cultural activities and game drives.

1 - We require a non-refundable USD 2250 deposit to reserve your seat on our Kenya safaris.
2 - Full payment (100%) due 60 days before trip departure to have a confirmed trip.
3 - Bookings made within 60 days before start of trip, must be paid in full (100%) to have a confirmed trip.
4 - You can either pay the amount in full to reduce transfer/currency costs or pay in 2 installments. The final installment has to be paid for, no later than 60 days prior to the departure date.

We prefer electronic bank transfers, more information is provided when you decide to make a booking.

CANCELLATION POLICY (non-negotiable):
- 2250 USD deposit is non-refundable because it's needed to make lodge reservations in advance. We travel in a group so reservations are based on a set number of people.
- If you cancel more than 90 days before the start of the trip, the whole trip price (minus the non-refundable deposit) will be refunded. Note, that If I have a new group trip planned, we can offer to transfer the non-refundable deposit to the next group trip.
- If you cancel between 90 - 31 days before the start of the trip, 50% of the total payment (minus non-refundable deposit) will be refunded
- If you cancel 30 days or less before the start of the trip, the amount is 100% non-refundable

Emergencies, although rare, can happen! Please book travel insurance (required for this trip) to keep you protected in case of unexpected emergencies. See the next FAQ about travel insurance.

Secure a travel insurance (mandatory) before arriving in Kenya to participate in travel activities.

For this trip, it's mandatory to have a travel insurance to cover emergency evacuation expenses, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, damage, theft or loss of personal baggage, money, cancellation, emergency travel and accommodation, lost baggage and any other cover the clients deems fit.
Other than compulsory insurance, the decision of which insurance cover he/she obtains is solely the responsibility of the client. The client acknowledges that without such travel insurance, client will be responsible for all costs arising from any cancellation, re-routing or rescheduling of your trip or any emergency (medical or other kind) that may arise during your travels.

You (client) agree that in the event of you failing to purchase adequate insurance cover, you will not hold us responsible for any harm or loss that you may suffer.

Health: The client (you) accepts that to participate in the tour requires a measure of physical fitness and health and it is the client’s obligation to ensure that he/she is medically fit to embark on the tour.

For vaccinations to travel to Kenya, you can visit a travel health clinic, as requirements vary by country.

Recommended vaccinations for travel to Kenya include Yellow Fever, Hepatitis A, and DTP. Other diseases present in Kenya include Typhoid Fever, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis, Rabies, and Meningitis. Consult with a knowledgeable travel medicine doctor to determine if vaccination is advisable for you.

Yes, Malaria is a risk throughout Kenya. There is no vaccination against malaria. We recommend the use of anti-malarial tablets. You can discuss this with a travel medicine doctor.

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by malaria parasites transmitted through mosquito bites. The parasites first multiply in the liver and then in red blood cells. Symptoms include cold shivers followed by fever, often preceded by flu-like symptoms.

To protect yourself from mosquito bites, bring along insect repellent containing DEET and cover your body well in the evenings. Use mosquito nets (if you wish), and bring your antimalarials. Long pants and sleeves during sunset hours will also help to avoid mosquito bites. Consult a travel clinic for personal advice regarding your travel plans.

For going on safari in Kenya, your passport must be valid for at least six months upon departing your country and possess a minimum of four blank visa pages, equating to two facing blank visa pages.

Check the Kenya embassy or consulate requirements. All foreign nationals require a Kenya Visa. Apply for your Kenya eVisa through the official Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration. This is the only authentic Visa Application Portal for Kenya visas and it costs $50. It's very quick and simple to apply for a Kenya visa online. Initiate this process at least two weeks before departure as it typically takes approximately 10 days to complete the Kenya evisa.

This is what you need: a passport copy, a recent passport-size photo, and a yellow fever vaccination certificate. You also have the possibility to apply for an East-Africa Tourist Visa (for example if you also travel to Kenya and Rwanda) or a multiple-entry visa.

You can still get a Uganda visa on arrival, but that takes time and NOT the preferred way to get your visa for Uganda. I highly recommend applying for your Uganda visa online.

Pack essentials include valid passport, visa, air tickets, expense money, inoculations, and clothing suitable for safaris. Consider traveling light with soft luggage. You should also bring a day pack to carry essentials whilst out on safari in Kenya.

Bring a valid passport; be sure to check the expiry date. Also pack a photocopy of the photo page and the entry stamp page of your passport as an additional piece of identification. Please store these photo copies in a different place to your travel documents. If your passport is in a hotel safe, or if you were to lose your passport this precaution would prove invaluable.

Kenya offers rich photo opportunities. Carry enough memory cards, and batteries. A 200 mm (or longer) telephoto lens is very useful for wildlife photography on safari but if you're not into safari photography that much it is not a must. A wide angle lens (f/e 16-35mm) is great for photographing Kenya's beautiful landscapes.

During the complete Kenya safari and on game drives, you will travel in a four-wheel-drive vehicle, a safari jeep (Toyota Landcruiser), equipped with a specially made panoramic roof, allowing you to photograph or film while standing inside the vehicle. Our safari vehicles have comfortable seats, all positioned by a window so you can also spot animals while seated. You will be accompanied by a highly experienced guide and photographic tour leader.

The local currency in Kenya is the Kenyan Shilling, however, US Dollars are widely accepted. It is advisable to carry cash in US Dollars, but please note: only bills from 2003 onwards are accepted; those dated before 2003 are unfortunately not. Credit card payments are accepted in some accommodations, but substantial surcharges apply.

You can withdraw money with your debit card in Kenya. However, this is only possible in the bigger cities. During the safari, there are few places where we get to an ATM. Please ensure you have enough US Dollars in cash on hand during these days.

Is Kenya Safe? Yes, it is safe to travel Kenya and the country has low crime rates. Avoid travel by road outside major towns at night. I've been traveling in Kenya a few times over the years and I felt safe at all times.
