Travel Photography:
Anyone can learn it!

Do you love to photograph beautiful places, but is your camera a puzzle to you? I get you. This photography guide features tips and inspirational travel photos to help you improve your photography skills which will transform your photos from average to awesome!
I learned the basics of photography while I was volunteering in a Game Reserve in Africa. On our daily game drives, I practiced what I'd learned. The good news: you can learn it too! It takes some time and practice, but it's totally worth the effort.

Since travel becomes more accessible, travel photography is a growing popular genre for both amateur and professional photographers. Therefore, it's important to spend some time improving your travel photography skills! The most critical component of photography is the photographer and not the photography gear you are using. Everyone can learn to take better photos, whether you use a smartphone, a point & shoot camera, or a DSLR!

Travel photography involves the documentation of an area's landscape, amazing nature, inspiring people, cultures, and history.

Travel photos are memories

Travel photographs are precious memories that conjure special feelings that take you back to a beautiful place or moment, like your first encounter with a leopard or the time you climbed a mountain in the very dark to watch the sunrise above the clouds in Drakensberg, South Africa. Through these photos, you can endlessly re-visit your travel adventures.

Travel photos are also meaningful for showing others the beauty of our planet and help to convey the spirit of a special place, inspiring them to explore these destinations too. Travel- and wildlife images can also help to raise awareness about the impact of our travels on the planet.

Top Photo Locations for Travel Photography

Amazing photo locations

Our planet has uncountable places, destinations, and (popular) photo locations that are worth visiting. Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest or Google showcase many of these beautiful destinations around the world. We get inspired and want to visit these places too, to see and capture a unique place by ourselves. That also counts for me, but not without respecting the place I visit.

If you're not allowed to go behind a fence, there's a reason why it's not allowed. They try to preserve nature or to protect a monument. Please respect that!

Don't break the rules to get your perfect picture. It's not worth it. Try to look for different (and more unique) perspectives instead. There are also still countless beautiful undiscovered photo spots. The truth is, you don't have to go far to take beautiful photos. Even close to your home you can find beautiful spots to photograph, you only have to see it.

Travel Destination Madagascar: Avenue of Baobabs at sunset

Avenue of the Baobabs in Morondava, Madagascar (Africa)

The famous Allee des Baobabs in Madagascar is probably the most picturesque road in Madagascar and also one of the most popular photography spots in Madagascar. Go for a sunset shoot, wait for the stars to photograph the Milky Way, and capture the Avenue at sunrise as well. You will be amazed by the magical spectacle of light and colors in the sky. A must-visit for every travel photographer!

Batad Rice Terraces, Ifugao, Philippines (Asia)

Everyone goes to the Philippines and heads straight for the beaches but you'll be surprised what you are missing in the North. Batad is a small and remote village and is only accessible on foot. The Batad rice terraces are over 2000 years old and declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its majestic Stairway to Heaven.

Cinque Terre, Italy (Europe)

The five fishing villages that are part of the Cinque Terre National Park are the most iconic highlight of The Italian Riviera: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. A colorful photogenic UNESCO World Heritage Site where you're also able to focus on night photography and long exposure photography.

Maasai Mara, Kenya (Africa)

The Maasai Mara in Kenya is a wildlife photographer's paradise with an abundance of wildlife. Opt for a (private) photo safari trip to ensure that you have enough time to get that perfect wildlife image. The Mara Conservancies are particularly interesting to focus on Big Cats, like lions, cheetahs, and leopards. However, there's more to the Masai Mara than those Big Cats. Smaller animals, antelopes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and so on are also worth observing and capturing.
Best things to do in Cape Town: visit Table Mountain National Park

Cape Town, South Africa (Africa)

Cape Town is probably my favorite city in the world with amazing views on every corner. The Table Mountain and Lions Head are beautiful backdrops in the golden hours. Photographing Table Mountain from Blouberg Strand is a great pace for long-exposure photography. Camps Bay is a lovely place to watch the sunset. Or what about the penguin colony, Cape Point, the botanical garden, and the colorful houses of Bo-Kaap? So many beautiful photography locations in Cape Town, South Africa that this has to be on your travel photography bucket list.
